Deep Ripping Compacted Soils, Hardpan, Claypan, Ploughpan

Our D9 heavy bulldozer will deep rip hard, ccompated soil smaller machines simply can't handle. Ripping is an art Kuzma Heavy Bulldozing is well experienced in, contact us for more information.

Soil ripping helps improve soil structure, soil drainability and root system depth. Deep ripping breaks up traffic-induced or naturally occurring layers with high soil strength. With deep ripping, roots can penetrate the soil faster and deeper to absorb more soil moisture, capture more soil nutrients and improve yield. Plant roots will grow faster and go deeper, enabling access to the increased amounts of water and nutrients available, resulting in a stronger, healthier crop and a greater yield.

Agricultural machinery, livestock or natural soil characteristics and conditions lead to subsurface compaction, causing:

    •       Reduced biological activity
    •       Increased soil strength
    •       Poor soil structure
    •      Stunted crop root growth

    • Compacted soils reduce crop production and restricts root growth by requiring a greater amount of energy for roots to grow through the compacted layer, as opposed to that which has been deep ripped. The resulting shallow root systems cannot access the nutrients and water lying beneath the compacted layer.

Ripping has proven to be a benefit for hay fields, corn fields, orchards, vineyards and more as well as substantially increasing yield when transitioning to a "no till" system.
